Sister island arts
Inter-island artists exchange groups shows with Nantucket, September 2001 and October 2002
553 STATE ROAD IN WEST TISBURY, MARTHA’S VINEYARD www.CobaltFineArt.com
Identical twin sisters Melissa Breese, residing on Martha’s Vineyard, and Melanie Kotolac, residing on Nantucket, conceived of the inter-island artists exchange as a means of promoting communication and cultural exchange between the sister islands. Both Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket face similar social, economic, geographical, and environmental concerns, as well as unique natural beauty that the sisters sought to present through the eyes of each island’s local artists. Melissa Breese curated shows of Martha’s Vineyard artists at (x) Gallery on Nantucket, and Melanie Kotolac curated shows of Nantucket artists at Cobalt Gallery. Special thanks goes to Caroline O’Connell for her help with the shows.
